Jaleos is dynamic, Brisbane based ensemble drawing from the rich harmonies of Argentine Tango, the wild improvisations of Gypsy Jazz and the fire and grace of Flamenco.
Jaleos (formally known as SARS until the world started using the word for a less pleasant subject) is a celebration of the diverse musical passions of its members. With respect, abandon, precision and recklessness Jaleos gives established musical boundaries a polite shove and invites you to dance or just to sit back and enjoy with a glass of wine.
Andrew Veivers has been performing, teaching, and studying the Spanish guitar for many years. From the beginning he combined the traditional study of flamenco with the formal training of the classical guitar. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music in Australia Andrew spent 3 years studying and performing in London, Madrid and Amsterdam. He has appeared at venues ranging from theatres, galleries, and folk festivals throughout Australia to Classical guitar festivals and chamber music series in the UK and The Netherlands.
Simone Pope – Guided by some of Spain’s finest dancers including La China, Carmela Greco, Concha Vargas, and Belen Fernandez, Simone’s modern choreographies transfix the audience with their energy and passion. Simone has appeared in many World Music and Folk Festivals and constantly returns to Spain to immerse herself in the latest technical and artistic directions of flamenco.
Jaleos is a very flexible and cooperative group fitting into a variety of settings. Use their musicians (soloist or trio) for background mood music, festivals or wedding receptions or pull out all the stops and book their stage show for a fabulous alternative after dinner entertainment for conferences or private and corporate functions.
